A novel that delves deeply into the complexities and joy of senior love.

Recently-widowed Grace Maguire rejects the plans of her well-meaning children to define her future. Determined to follow a new path, she sells her home, says goodbye to her friends, and travels to Alaska in pursuit of a job and a dream.

John Hathaway, a retired New York Times journalist, leads a serene life after the death of his wife. He wants no change in his lifestyle-until he is offered an assignment to investigate the controversial logging industry in Alaska's rainforest.

Fate brings John and Grace together. They are immediately attracted to one another but not without conflict. Grace secures her dream job as a naturalist/guide for a lodge in the Denali wilderness. John, anxious to return to his beloved brownstone in New York, is caught off guard by the strong attraction he feels for this free-spirited woman.

As their love grows, so do the complications. Geographic preferences, sexual problems, finances, and the opposition of their children threaten to keep them apart.

This book is extremely boring. The dialogue is very prim and proper. I don't know anyone who talks like that in this century in casual conversation. Lost luggage isn't "quite disconcerting" it's a pain in the rear. When Grace goes to see her attorney, he greets her with "Hello, my dear." I wouldn't hire anyone who refers to me as "my dear." I wanted to read the book because the idea of senior love between two widowed people intrigued me and the thought of reading about Alaska was appealing. The descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness and the wolves were some of the best parts of the book and also the dog, Bandit. In fact, I was much more concerned about what was happening with Bandit than I was with any of the human characters. This wouldn't even make a good Lifetime movie. I think possibly the reason for the stilted and old fashioned dialogue is because the author mainly writes historical fiction. Maybe she doesn't know how to write contemporary dialogue. I'm not sure what century these people are from, but even though the story takes place in 2004, the characters write letters (snail mail) between New York and Alaska and do not use email. They seldom use a cell phone. Just because the two main characters are in their late 60's and early 70's doesn't mean that they should be ignorant of modern technology. I'm getting close to that age myself and I use a cell phone and a computer (obviously). And also their age shouldn't be the reason for the strange way of talking to one another. I have a relative who is close to 100 years old and she doesn't talk this way and probably never will. I came close to putting the book down without finishing it, but once I start a book I try to finish it no matter how boring it is. I'm glad I stuck it out because the last 10 pages were the best part of the book.

To Love Again Dody Myers Books Reviews

What a special story this is. The story of love found again, unexpectedly, later in life. The story of two people who work their way through the "dance" of a developing romance. This book has special meaning for me, as my mother IS the Margaret Sponsler who wrote the poem at the end of the book. And though this is not my mother's story, nor is the book autobiographical, the love spoken about in her poem is indeed a love so special and different from the love of youth and raising families, and Dody Myers has done a wonderful job conveying that love in the pages of her book. I have personally shared this book, along with my mother's poem, with several couples who have found this "new" love.
This is Meyers' first novel with a contemporary theme and setting. Known as a "romance novelist," this will not disappoint her readers, but it will most certainly attract new readers to her as a competent writer of fiction.

She is a good storyteller who draws characters that move the storyline along at an even pace and who do not overshadow the basic message. The theme in this work is the problems that face widowed persons have lived the first part of their lives. However, they still have the health and resources to plan and pursue a future that builds upon lessons learned while promising an interesting, stimulating and productive future.

What I like most about this book is its balance a message that does not intrude upon the story; characters who do not subordinate the message; a pace which moves the story without beating it to death or leaving too many loose ends and sensitive treatment of a topic which could have become stilted or offensive
What a wonderful book! An easy love story, especially if you are a senior and have lost a spouse. I happened to be on a cruse to Alaska with Dody Myers, the author, when she did her research for this book. Every visual and many of the people are true in the book. I highly recommend you read it.

To Love Again was an easy book to read as well as an educational book. I really liked the author's easy style and since I have read 2 of her other books & enjoyed reading them, I decided to choose this one. It was a delight to read as well, but I feel it has a lot of educational value.

As an old Clinical Psychologist, I found her insights into Senior Relationships in particular quite good and grounded. How love changes during one's life time is quite interesting and I have both experienced it, read about it, and used this information in my individual therapy with others. I really liked her easy way of introducing these ideas and believe it is useful for people to read this book for that reason alone. The Senior Love concept which she explored made the book more interesting to read, but I have had no experience in this area. However, the book has a wonderful optimistic approach that I thought was quite appealing. I believe it would be a very good book for others to read to help them look at Senior Relationships as well as help them approach the idea of Senior Love if their spouse dies or they get divorced later in life.
I loved this book. Having loved "again" myself, I was interested in seeing how someone would treat the subject of senior love. Dody handled it with style, and I especially enjoyed her educational treatment of senior sexual challenges. Personally, I really enjoyed Dody's vocabulary and know older people who are "proper" but, like all of us, need love and companionship. I loaned the book to my sister-in-law whose husband (my brother) passed away after a lengthy battle with ALS. I didn't get the book back. My sister-in-law attempted to read the entire book during a busy visit with me. She still had a chapter to complete and took the book with her. I went out and bought another copy. I'll probably end up sharing my new copy with someone who has lost her partner. Then I'll need another copy. I think this book should be on the shelves of every library and senior community in this country. Let's encourage our seniors to reach out in fellowship with others. Who knows? Each might find a way "To Love Again."
PS I've added Alaska to my "bucket" list. Until now, I didn't know how much I was missing!
